Morocco has varied climates throughout the country, however there are three main climate areas. Near the north coast the climate is Mediterranean. The months of May to September are hot and dry while the rest of the year is usually mild with a good few rainy periods. This region is slightly cooler than the rest of Morocco because of the south-east trade winds.

Morocco is an extremely mountainous country, especially in the north, for example, the Atlas Mountain Range is located in north Morocco. Mountains take up approximately 80% of the land. The higher mountains have more rain and colder temperatures. Snow is very common during the winter months in the mountains, so there is an abundance of ski resorts there.

The last climate type in Morocco is deserts, which are located in the south-east of the country where part of the Sahara desert can be found. The summer days are long, dry and extremely hot, whereas the winter nights are the complete opposite - freezing cold. There is an average of thirteen hours of sunshine during the summer months in the desert.

As a result of the high temperatures in Morocco, late spring or early summer would be the ideal time of the year to visit Morocco.
